It is only in War, or Cricket that we see India as a nation, so united. Today, April 2, 2011, the nation is once again united, and Im glad to say, its not war! Cricket World Cup final has India vs Sri Lanka with either of the teams, taking away the cup. I am less of a cricket enthusiast but still I feel the need to witness it and be a part of the privileged audience, so you can imagine what must be going on inside the real fans! People are painting themselves saffron white and green or are wearing the flag itself! or are wearing their favorite player jerseys! There is only one status everyone is putting over facebook or twitter and that is ‘bleed blue’! Blue is the new religion of Indian unity which defies all borders of state, of caste, of race, of status. Blue is the colour of team India.
We have won the Cup before, we know what its like. And believe me it is historic. I say so also because i wasn’t born then, and iv just seen pictures of 1983, which we still cherish, so it would be more like once in a lifetime moment for me (i believe a lot of us) if we win and Im desperately and very optimistically waiting for it. This match is also Important because Sachin Tendulkar, the God of cricket, the one to be honored by being called “The Indian” as seen on his jersey recently in IPL cricket with the rest all wearing their names, the one I have seen playing since my childhood, leading India to glory, the one who broke records, the one who gave the best players nightmares, is (as talked about) playing for the last time in world cup, in his homeland. There are also possibilities that he could score his 100th century in international cricket! And obviously, the possibilities of us winning the world cup again after so long..

WE WON!!! WOOHOO!! After all the anticipation, India is finally out on the streets dancing and celebrating victory the way no one else can possibly dream!
Well, another two days and the excitement will probably go neutral again ..but we will never forget this. The day the nation roared for an encore due to cricket after a 28 year wait which was every drop worthwhile.
The nation will sleep well today. (If it can that is!)
